If you've ever dared to express your atheism in any public place, even if its just on a message board, chances are, someone has told you something around the lines of why do you care about what people believe?, live and let die man. Seems a very neutral, logical point of view, it's almost something i would agree with...if the religious weren't out there shoving their beliefs down everyone's throat, claiming that anyone that doesn't believe in what they believe is either a fool or has a "hole" in their life, threatening people left and right with hellfire, damnation and eternal torture in the lake of fire.
Socially, the table is tilted on the religious's favor, they are the good guys, the ones that promote morality, atheists are the godless beings that care for nobody but themselves, take social networks for example, on my personal Facebook as i've stated before, 100% of my family are balls out Christians, most of them don't believe in evolution because all they know about it is that popular image of the monkey to human scale, so constantly i have to read their posts asking for prayers for another family member or friend who is sick or is going through some tough times, some just love posting bible passages, or the occasional warning about how the end of times is near.
So why do i care if they post harmless stuff on Facebook?, it's a matter of analysis, if i dare to even start linking this blog on my personal Facebook, i would have to deal with their double standards, they are perfectly fine with promoting their beliefs, and their ideas, but god forbid i express some of mine, immediately i turn into the asshole for expressing my own view of the world. I don't do it, because if i do, i know someone will eventually show up here at my house and preach some arguments that i've probably heard 2000 times before.
But i do have this blog, and i do actively post on Christian videos and whenever i'm asked directly, i do address, i talk, when asked, about religion with close family members, friends and friends of friends that for some reason touch that subject. I feel we need to criticize religion, we can't just live and let die, i care about it because they try to push it into society, i care because of people that wan't to teach Creationism in schools, i care about it because some people out there actively abuse children by filling their fragile minds with images of satan, torture, hellfire, doom, and most of all, the image of that guy nailed and bleeding all over a cross, a crucifix has to be one of the top forging materials for children's nightmares.
Son, Jesus loves you this much!
I feel i have to present arguments against it because people out there bash and spit on the face of science to defend their religious ideas, they claim science doesn't work, science doesn't offer morality, it doesn't have concrete answers, and they do all their bashing from their iphones, their macs, or their desktop computers, they film documentaries and videos against science using digital cameras, cellphones and microphones, and they advertise it on the internet, but they don't see the irony in that.
I care because it has been proven that religious governments do not work, you can argue all you want about Stalin, but in all fairness, Stalinism was a very dogmatic movement that was based on brainwashing and some sort of faith. There is absolutely no evidence that a Christian/Secular nation like the United States is a superpower because of Christianity, look at Luxembourg, Sweden, Norway, Holland, Germany, all very successful countries with a better economy than the U.S, all of them secular countries with the highest rates of Atheism or Agnosticism, now look at the Islamic countries, if you don't see how religion has prevented technological development there, you have to be blind or very ill informed.
The same kind of technological oppression can be seen in the U.S with Christian moralists trying to ban stem cell research, a form of technology that can help us cure cancer, spinal cord damage, blindness, infertility, and baldness, just to name a few. They don't care about saving any lives, as long as they can keep picketing abortion clinics and forcing raped teenagers to carry on with their undesired pregnancy, as if they are going to take care of the offspring, ladies, a priest is the last person that should be talking about family values.
We simply can't live and let die, of course, i don't go door to door every Saturday morning preaching atheism, i don't offer pamphlets outside the supermarket, i don't threaten people by saying that 500 mad scientists will go to their house and perform sick experiments to their children if they don't stop believing in god. But, i do protest against people that do such things, if you give me a pamphlet, you better expect a rebuttal, if you are gonna come to my door to tell me i'm empty inside, you better be ready for an argument, and if you tell me or anyone else that we are burning in hell for our sins, then please, do not get offended if i politely tell you why you are full of shit.
- I care because of people that want religion in the classroom.
- I care because of the psychological abuse that they inflict on children.
- I care because of their defamation of science.
- I care because of their belief that every newborn is a sinner.
- I care because of the amount of guilt they create on people's minds.
- I care because of the people that have died and still die in the name of god.
- I care because of religion's constraining grasp against scientific progress.
- I care because of Christianity and Islam's intolerance, abuse and degradation of women.
- I care because of the polls that show 40% of Americans are YEC's.
- I care because of the catholic church's obscene wealth.
- I care because of the increasing popularity of violent and oppressive Islam.
- I care because of all the pedophile priests and pastors that the church protects.
- I care because of their absolute intolerance towards other silly religious beliefs.
- I care because of the murderous pope, that advices Africans against using condoms.
- I care because of the fear they plant on the believer's mind, without Satan, God wouldn't sell.
Thats why i care. So...why do you care?.

Religion is politics. All of the ones in power are afraid of technological advancement because it will hinder their power and profit. All of the followers are afraid of technological advancement because they don't want to be proven wrong.
It's a clusterfuck.. and it's slowly becoming more and more realized as people demand answers. I am one of these people.

wow...gamestart said it perfectly
The fact that they are so gung ho about pushing it on others makes it even easier to ignore. For me at least.
You're pretty much pushing just as hard in the opposite direction here :P it makes for some good reading :)
really nice <3
agree w/ gamestarr
good post
I'm too much in a rush to argue with you right now, but I'll sure do anytime soon xD
i have a different situation. i have been the heretic in the family for almost 8 years now. as stated in my blog, my family is a devout catholic, as i am when i was young. we still get along well, the only thing that change was, i don't have wake up every sunday to go to church!
actually, i don't care if they feed the our next generation with religious idea. i am what i am today because i seek knowledge. in the future, when i have children, they will have to back off this time.
Wow...that girl is just stunning =0
The problem is, if you push atheism, you're still pushing an absolute. "There is no God, and I know this." It's the exact same reason why religious extremists suck; both preach absolutes. Agnosticism, I can understand, since the whole idea is that man has no idea about the nature of God, one way or the other. That makes perfect sense. I just have problems whenever anyone preaches an absolute, as though somehow they're privy to information no one actually has.
Just one guy's opinion.
Exactly what gamestart said...Although have you ever heard of Pascal's Gambit? He has an interesting little theory about religion but too many people are way to extreme in their views on religion
Nice post!

Nice post ;d
shhhsss. uhh i am starting to get scare. cool pic mate.
nice post man =)
keep it up!
Great post. Atheism is a very smart life choice.
Isn't it live and let live?
If we didn't care, we'd all be dead.
Exactly how I feel man. Great post
Haha, very nice!
Great read! sup&fol
awesome post!
Oh god, I agree wholeheartedly.
Great read
(i still need to read the last half, but the first was damn good
I care because religion is just laziness. It destroys the human mind because it teaches people to be satisfied with now knowing how the world and the universe works. Religious people can elaborate on and on but if their base argument is "god did it" then what they are basically saying is "there's no reason to research why the Earth rotates around the Sun, no reason to research how we got here, no reason to research why people die and how diseases work, because God did it all, and that's all we need to know."
I can tolerate religion though. My mother is deeply Christian and I tolerate her as long as she isn't trying to force religious or any other irrational beliefs on others. She does sometimes, and I am not afraid to argue with her when she does. Most of the time though, she's willing to keep it to herself. She never raised me with religion, I was raised completely secular and I thank her for that. If only all religious people could raise their children secular instead of brainwashing them with their irrational beliefs...
what cooper said. Completely agree.
I'm linking this blog whenever I get into a religious argument. You express the ideas in my head perfectly into coherent speech.
I like your blog's design!
Agreed.
i don't care.
Atheism is the way for me
i care... kinda
I'm not exactly Religious or Atheist or anything in that sense...
but I pretty much agree with you.
I've been more bothered by the christians that I know more than I've been helped. It's not that I've been close minded, but one somebody scoffs at me for NOT going to church and NOT being able to recite verses from the bible, it gets fucking annoying.
I like this blog!
i am therefore i care
Very interesting.... Good Job!
Personally I'm against religion in the classroom.
I was not raised by a religious family, but my cousins are Wesleyans. It's very open and accepting church that I've had the pleasure of attending. I asked one of their die-hards how they felt about religion in the classroom and they said that nobody should have religion forced on them, but a person should be have the freedom to express or follow their religion regardless of where they are.
So the whole "In God We Trust" and "Pledge of Allegiance" were what they considered 'non-issues.' But prohibiting students from assembling prayer groups, observing religious holidays, or requiring them to violate the beliefs of their faith cannot be tolerated under a flag of freedom.
I've said before that I don't think I believe in God, but if I did I would probably hate him. But it was refreshing to find people that weren't all fire and brimstone about it.
I really don't know what to belive or think, but a god like Christians I do not belive in. I just live and I guess for now I belive in people, who give me hope and support me here in life and in reality. If I enjoy my life and there is a god after death, I'm still sure I have done nothing wrong.
As Stephen Colbert put it best: "Agnostics are just atheists WITHOUT BALLS"
Religion is a mental disease that needs to be eradicated, plain and simple.
Cool post
Great blog, man!
Hope you`ll check out mine as well.
Well said, man
wondering what the new topic will be about :)
wants religion for their grades not for their souls:))
Yep I deal with this all the time, jsut the other day I had to listen to my dad tell me how I'm selfish and only think of myself because I'm an atheist. Some people just never want to change their beliefs :P
Good blog, good post!
"science can't prove that god doesn't exist. but science makes god unnecessary." Stephen Hawking
and religous people aren't all that bad. my mom's side are hardcore Catholics. but they've never forced it on me. we've talked about it and ultimate they told me it was up to me to decide on which way i'd want to follow
Deep stuff, I finally followed, Follow back pleease.
I'm all about keeping my beliefs to myself. I'm usually hopeful that others will do the same, but that's almost never the case. Nice read though!
Ansering to your question, usually a care because i enojoy flamewars on forums, trolling believers is funny. XD
@Ankiseth: word. my opinion.
Ankiseth took a lot of my opinion, haha.
But yeah, I believe in a live and let live approach; chirstians shouldn't shove their religion down your throat nor should you throw your non-religion down there throat.
This blog is yours and thus by all means vent your views out! If someone has a blog on christianity and such, let them say their views on their blog and let them think what they want. Now if they come to your blog (or even facebook) going off on you for being atheist, then retaliate as you wish!
It's okay to defend your position, but taking the offensive can make a person look just as bad as the die-hard religious freaks we see. =|
like your post!!
Dude you hit it spot on. The pope should be tried as a war criminal for that damn condom disaster. >:(
I fully agree with what you said, and that most religious people are very very hypocritical, but I also know that some of those same people dedicate their time to "serve the lord" by helping others.
I'm not saying that is strictly a religious attribute as 4chan showed, when the gave the 90year old vet the best birthday ever. But at the end of the day, I'm all about the good, so I let them be.
Cheers
Mike
I agree with you almost 100%, but I feel we may differ slightly. I feel as though according to my own self-defined morals it would by hypocritical for me to baulk at the idea of someone practicing a religion. I generally don't care what people do with their own lives. I encourage them to find something to do with themselves. However, I generally dislike the outcomes of organized religions (that you've so neatly outlined). Sooo ... do what you want until it infringes on the rights of another. You can be free to think of me as a godless sinner, and I'll be free to think of you as a self-righteous bigot.
Yes, I've come across this response a few times as well. As for me, I care because religion has the potential to be just so harmful to an individual and to society as a whole; in fact, not only does it have the potential, it has absolutely caused that harm multiple times throughout history. There is good religion can accomplish, but that same good can be accomplished just as easily without it. The only really consistent "success" to religion's name is conflict and prejudice.
It wouldn't be an end-all solution, but there's no doubt in my mind that mankind would be much better off if religion had never existed.
