24 Master Of The Universe

Stephen Hawking to me is one of the most inspiring human beings on the planet today, he's our Newton, he's our Einstein, he became one of the smartest scientists alive, while almost being completely paralyzed, he developed theories, he did incredibly complex equations, not in a computer, or in a drawing board, but on his brain. Today, he is about to release the latest and most likely the last book in his life. After years of working, he can finally give us the theory, that hopefully will eventually put the god argument, to rest.

Yet today, after reading the comments on all of the articles, the most ignorant creationists never seize to amaze me, some even attribute his disease to his lack of faith, others think that he has finally lost his mind, like his motor disorder affects his intellect. All because of this small excerpt, taken out of context from his new book.
"Spontaneous creation is the reason why there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist....It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper [fuse] and set the universe going,"

Of course we need to read the whole book in order to agree or disagree with Hawking, but that doesn't stop the religious from speaking their minds and acting as if they have done a quarter of the research he did, as if they understand physics at the level Hawking does, as if they've read the whole book. This is what the head of the church of England had to say about the whole deal.
"Belief in God is not about plugging a gap in explaining how one thing relates to another within the Universe. It is the belief that there is an intelligent, living agent on whose activity everything ultimately depends for its existence"
 Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks said:
"Science is about explanation. Religion is about interpretation ... The Bible simply isn't interested in how the Universe came into being."
Ibrahim Mogra, an imam and committee chairman at the Muslim Council of Britain, was also quoted by the Times as saying:
"If we look at the Universe and all that has been created, it indicates that somebody has been here to bring it into existence. That somebody is the almighty conqueror."

So i decided to answer these three wise scholars,  even if they won't ever look at this blog.

First of all, if there's a living agent who created the universe, then what created him?, Hawking says something can be created out of nothing, so hey, there you go, god came out of nothing, right?, of course not, you would then have to explain, why would that something be a complex being, not only a complex being, but also an all seeing, all powerful entity, how did he get his powers?, why would the most primitive form of existence be also the most powerful, doesn't it work the other way around?, primitive beings evolve.

If an almighty being was created out of nothing so it could create everything else, whats the purpose of him? couldn't everything else have come out from nothing too?, you know, like Hawking's theory suggests?. If someone tries to use M-theory to explain god's creation, just like they say evolution theory is what god used to create life, ask them to please explain all of this.

Science is about explanation, the bible isn't interested in how the universe came into being?. So all that stuff in genesis about god creating the heavens and the earth, and the stars on the sky was all just for laughs?. Is the bible not interested, or the people that wrote it, had no idea about how big the universe was?, did they even understand a concept of what the universe is?. How is a 2000 year old book going to explain something that it isn't even aware that exists?. And finally.

The almighty conqueror?, why are the muslims always thinking about conquering stuff?, if we look at the universe we do not see the indication of any form of creator, whats with all the empty space?, all the exploding stuff, all the dangerous rocks flying at incredible speeds, waiting to collide with a planet and destroy it, exploding stars, gas giants and all the millions and millions of planets that are just full of nothing. Does that look to you like something a creator would do? or does it look like something that was created for no purpose, with no purpose?.

                                                                    god's love rays

All we need to do, is wait for Hawking's book to come out, read it, understand it, read it again, and then we can have an opinion about his theory, and we'll see just how much this book affects the religious community, and how much do they hate on Hawking. Just keep in mind all the times the church has bashed a scientist for his heretic claims, only to apologize a few hundred years later for their unfounded opinions.

That was quite interesting. :D

I do so enjoy your blog. =D
Again I tend to take the view of people standing on opposite sides of the same coin arguing about which side is correct. Time will tell, or will it? To me, creator or no creator - afterlife or not - we human beings emerged on this planet to work with it, learn about it, experience it, and love one another. Religion is violent in its opposition of science, just as science is stubborn to accept the possibility of the metaphysical.

Why does it have to be black or white? I'm okay with grey. Can't we all just get along? =]

The thing is, we can't get a long, look at Hawking, the man is confined to a wheelchair, he should have died 30 years ago, but, still he's working hard on what he loves to do. He isn't out there to bash religion, he's doing serious work to find out how the universe was created, i don't see Hawkings going out door to door to promote his research, he's not out there trying to kill other scientists. The man just publishes the works of his entire life, and he gets picked on and refuted by a bunch of clergymen that don't have a fraction of his knowledge.

Alex Raintree said...

Well the clergymen have been indoctrinated by the church and so they study the materials of that institution. It's not that the clergymen aren't knowledgeable, they have just studied other materials. Likewise, scientist are indoctrinated through the institution of science (Academics), and have studied the materials of that institution. Both parties only have the ability to speak within the framework or face the consequences. I suppose you could say I'm anti-institution, I think smaller groups of people thinking freely with out an imposed framework. The information people were creating would drift around and be built upon as seen fit. Institutionalism is archaic.

Stephen Hawkins is a truly great man, such a shame about his disease, i feel for him. Didn't stop his mind though, he is still one hell of a smart guy.

I understand what you are saying Alex, but i wouldn't compare Religious indoctrination to Academic indoctrination, although yes, religious people threaten you with hellfire, and academic leaders threaten you with failure in life.

Alex Raintree said...

Precisely. You can be humiliated and have funds taken away if you come up with some plausible yet unpopular theory within Academia (failure in life). Just as you're threatened by hellfire by the Church. The mindset that institutionalism creates is all competition based. I'm right, your wrong, and "me me me." There's hardly any wiggle room. Both institutions have evolved over time to accept things that were once thought absurd. I'm simply proposing that the black and white model of things is slowing our overall progress.

Keep keeping me entertained! I hope you don't mind me stopping by for some debate and to push some buttons. =D

Enjoyed reading this. The thing is I don't understand why do religious people always argue, while having nothing to back up their sayings with? I mean aren't they supposed to be humble and all? The most valuable aspect of religion is that it gives you some guidelines on how to live your life like a good person, so that should be its main concentration, and not denying obvious facts, prooved by the world's greatest scientists, for the sake of religion's consistency.
